Left-hand drive cars from Hungary will require certain modifications, including those to the headlight pattern to avoid glare for oncoming traffic, the speedo to display the miles per hour reading and the rear fog light if it is not already universally compliant.

Frequently asked questions

What is the process for importing cars under ten years old?

Cars under ten years old from Hungary must comply with UK-type approval. We can do this via a process called mutual recognition or through IVA testing.

One of our greatest advantages is our private testing lane which expedites the process in its entirety. It means we can undertake modifications and perform in-house IVA and MOT testing.

My Car Import is currently the country’s only car import company with a private testing lane.

What is the process for importing cars over ten years old?

Cars over 10 years old, including classics, are type approval exempt but require an MOT test and certain modifications before registration.

Modifications are age-dependant but generally comprise headlights and rear fog lights.

If your car is over 40 years old, it will not need an MOT test and can be delivered directly to your UK address ahead of registration.
