What is a Certificate of Conformity?

A European Certificate of Conformity (CoC) is an official document issued by a car manufacturer or its authorised representative that certifies a car's compliance with European Union (EU) standards and regulations.

The certificate ensures that the car meets the necessary safety, emissions, and environmental requirements set by the EU for road cars.

The CoC contains important information about the car, including its make, model, technical specifications, and identification numbers, such as the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and the type-approval number.

This document is essential when registering a car in an EU member state, especially when importing a car from one EU country to another.

If you purchase a new car within the EU or are importing a used car from another EU country, you may need to obtain a CoC to register the car in your country of residence. The process for obtaining a CoC varies depending on the manufacturer and the country where the car was produced or first registered. Generally, you can request a CoC from the car manufacturer or its authorised representative in your country.

How do you get a CoC?

We assist hundreds of customers each month to register their cars with a CoC. It is one of the most popular routes to registration though not always the best, depending on the car.

Once you complete a quote form, we'll provide you with the most cost-effective method of registering your car. If you need help simply ordering the CoC then we can help solely with that.

Bear in mind that as a full-service import company, our main aim is to remove the hassle involved with registering your car.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch as we can take care of your import at any stage of the process (even if you are yet to transport it to the United Kingdom).

We always tell our customers that no two cars are alike so acquiring a quote is the best way to know for certain.

How much does a Certificate of Conformity cost?

The price varies between manufacturers and in some cases it can cost thousands.

If your car was originally made within the EU it should have been issued a CoC when you purchased it.

In the event that you don’t have a CoC and you need one for registering a car then it is at the manufacturer’s discretion as to how much they can charge for a replacement.

If you need advice on getting your car registered we can assist with the entire process. Get in touch for a quotation using our quote request form.
