What is the transfer of residence form?

The Transfer of Residence (ToR) form, also known as the Transfer of Residence Relief form, is a document used by individuals who are moving their primary residence from one country to another. It is commonly used for customs purposes and may be required by the customs authority in the destination country.

The ToR form is typically used to claim relief or exemption from certain customs duties and taxes when importing personal belongings, household goods, and cars into the new country of residence. It allows individuals to bring their possessions with them without incurring excessive taxes or import duties, provided they meet specific eligibility criteria and can demonstrate that the items have been used and owned for a certain period of time.

The specific requirements and procedures for the ToR form vary depending on the country of origin and destination. It’s essential to consult the customs authority or relevant government agency in the destination country to obtain accurate and up-to-date information on the process, documentation, and any applicable fees or regulations associated with the transfer of residence.

Can anyone apply for the ToR to move to the United Kingdom?

As of September 2021, individuals planning to move to the United Kingdom could apply for Transfer of Residence (ToR) relief. However, it’s important to note that immigration and customs regulations can change, so it’s advisable to consult the latest information from the UK government or contact the UK customs authority for the most accurate and up-to-date details on the ToR process.

ToR relief allows individuals to bring their personal belongings, household goods, and cars into the UK without excessive customs duties or taxes. Eligibility criteria must be met, including demonstrating residency outside the UK for a specific period and proving prior ownership and use of the goods.

To initiate the ToR process, it is typically necessary to complete the relevant forms, submit supporting documentation, and adhere to the guidelines provided by the UK customs authority. For the most up-to-date information on applying for ToR relief when moving to the United Kingdom, it is recommended to visit the official website of Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) or contact them directly.
