A RHD car refers to a right-hand drive car. It is a car designed and configured with the driver’s seat positioned on the right-hand side of the car, with the controls and instruments oriented accordingly. In RHD cars, the driver operates the car from the right-hand side.

The reasoning behind this is generally because of the side of the road that we drive on. And in countries where we drive on the left hand side of the road, the cars are usually right hand drive. When you take that into consideration, if you drive on the right hand side of the road, then driving a left hand drive is ideal.

The arrangement of right-hand drive or left-hand drive (LHD) in a car depends on the country or region where the car is primarily used. In countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, India, and many others, right-hand drive is the standard configuration. This means that most cars manufactured and sold in these countries are designed with RHD.

In right-hand drive cars, the gearshift, handbrake, pedals, and other controls are positioned to the left of the driver, while the steering wheel is on the right-hand side. The driver’s seat is also typically positioned closer to the center of the road in RHD cars, allowing the driver to have better visibility of the oncoming traffic.

On the other hand, left-hand drive (LHD) cars have the driver’s seat positioned on the left-hand side, and the controls and instruments are oriented accordingly. LHD cars are the standard configuration in countries such as the United States, Canada, most European countries, and others. Basically any country that drives on the right hand side of the road will usually be LHD.

The main difference that you will often find between the two is simply the configuration of the headlights. Whilst you can drive your car in any country, the headlights will be an issue depending on what side of the road you are driving on.

If you are planning to drive a LHD car in the United Kingdom then you will need to have your headlights adjusted, and in some very rare cases replaced.

This is to do with the fact that your headlights are not perfectly level with the road. In fact if you drive a LHD car the right hand headlight will be slightly higher than the left. This is to give you a balance between being able to see far off into the distance, whilst not dazzling other road users.

If you are looking to import your LHD car to the United Kingdom don’t hesitate to fill in a quote form for more information on what we can do.
