At My Car Import, not only do we deal with the import of cars into the UK, but we can also offer a bespoke buying service and deliver the car direct to your door in New Zealand, through our sister company, Greenwich Knight and our NZ partners, Fasttrack Automotive Compliance Centre.
Simply tell us the car you would like to purchase, including specifications, mileage, year and we will use our vast market knowledge to track down the perfect car for you in the UK. After sourcing a selection of cars for you to choose from, you can then tell us exactly which car you want and we will prepare the car for shipping.
At Greenwich Knight, all of our cars are inspected by the AA to give any prospective purchaser peace of mind that the car they are soon to own will drive, look and present itself as it should.
At Greenwich Knight, we ensure that the car you choose will be compliant with New Zealand automotive standards and the New Zealand Transport agency. We act on behalf of you when negotiating prices of the car here in the UK, making sure you get the very best price which will translate to a sizeable saving once you receive your car in New Zealand.
Once satisfied with the price negotiations, we can purchase the car here in the UK and shipping is then arranged to New Zealand, usually to Auckland. The whole process with Greenwich Knight takes 6 weeks from purchase to the car arriving with you. Buying from the UK allows you to make large savings over New Zealand prices and you have the added convenience of a dedicated team to control the entire buying process.
Do I have to pay VAT?
Value Added Tax (VAT) is the New Zealand equivalent of GST, and is currently 20%.
A proportion of new and used cars, but not all, are eligible for a full VAT refund when the car you purchase is confirmed as being exported to a non-European country. This is known as VAT-qualifying.
Therefore when you purchase a car with us and get it shipped back to your non-European country, such as New Zealand, you will be entitled to a full VAT refund.
Whenever possible, Greenwich Knight source VAT-qualifying cars.
During this process, it is important to note that UK Customs and Revenue require the VAT to be paid to the dealer, until the car is confirmed as having gone to export.
If the car we are dealing with for you is VAT-qualifying, Greenwich Knight will assist with all the documentation necessary and ensure the VAT is reclaimed for the benefit of the customer. Where possible we will endeavor to defer the vat amount pending shipping / export proof for the customs office.
